Strengthening regional linkages
Regional development linkages have become a trend and a strong breakthrough to create momentum and attract resources to realize goals identified in development strategies and plans in localities, regions and the whole country.
Long An is the gateway between the Southeast and Mekong Delta regions, with a very special position to connect with provinces and cities in the two regions. Taking advantage of it, the province has achieved many positive results in socio-economic fields.
The province's economic growth rate in 2024 is estimated at 8.3%. The economy has gradually recovered, attracting many investors, gradually increasing the proportion of industry - construction, trade - services.
Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam said that in recent years, Long An has strengthened its linkages with the Mekong Delta, Southeast regions, especially Ho Chi Minh City to re-assign and coordinate on a regional scale, making breakthroughs in developing transport infrastructure, creating momentum for economic restructuring, attracting investors. In addition, the province has promoted the program of linking the consumption of key agricultural products, achieving positive results.
As the intersection between the Mekong Delta and Southeast regions, Long An and Ho Chi Minh City focus on investing and connecting transport infrastructure, contributing to accelerating the socio-economic development of the two localities in particular and of the two region and the country in general.
In particular, Long An was approved by the Prime Minister for the Provincial Master Plan for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 in Decision No. 686, dated June 13, 2023, as an important basis for the province to lead and direct the implementation of socio-economic development tasks in the locality.
For public investment projects, the province prioritizes investment in projects with large-scale infrastructure, especially strategic transport infrastructure, ensuring synchronization, modernity, connectivity, and promoting connectivity between the Southeast region and the Mekong Delta.
At the same time, the province also focuses on connection projects between three economic regions and urban centers associated with two economic corridors: the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 - Ring Road 4 corridor and the southern development corridor, Provincial Road 827E.
In addition, the power grid infrastructure, healthcare, education, social security, and urban technical infrastructure in the three dynamic regions are identified in the Provincial Planning to attract private and foreign capital, develop important socio-economic infrastructure of the province and inter-regions, ensure a reasonable and effective investment structure between regions, both creating growth momentum and ensuring social security.
Along with the advantages of geographical location and land resources, Long An can take on the role of supplying food and agricultural products to the Ho Chi Minh City market through the program of linking consumption of key agricultural products.
In addition, Long An also connects with the Mekong Delta and Southeast regions to promote trade, connect trade and link consumption of the province's typical products. Recently, the province has participated in many large, specialized and international events, helping businesses promote products and develop exports.
At the 2024 Long An Province Import and Export Supply Chain Connection Conference, the Department of Industry and Trade signed a memorandum of understanding with EB Services Company Limited - representative of Central Retail and OSB Technology - representative of Alibaba.com e-commerce platform on researching and implementing projects in the province, promoting trade, connecting the consumption of goods of the province to the distribution system of enterprises.
Long An - A companion, a destination for prosperity
Implementing the Long An Provincial Master Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the province is synchronously deploying solutions to implement planning and organize socio-economic activities according to the model of "1 center - 2 corridors - 3 economic regions - 6 dynamic axes", with the goal of becoming an industrial center with advanced automation and production processes, continuing the development momentum from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta provinces.
In particular, enjoying the spread of urban industrial development in the Southeast region, synchronously and effectively exploiting the outstanding and unique advantages of the locality, the province strives to fulfill the role and responsibility of a locality considered the growth engine of the region.
With many domestic and foreign investment promotion programs and activities, Long An has attracted quite strong investment capital, from domestic and foreign investors in line with the investment attraction orientation of the province.
Long An has received investment in many large-scale projects such as Suntory PepsiCo Long An Factory (Huu Thanh Industrial Park, Duc Hoa District); Thai Tuan Group Joint Stock Company invested in Thai Tuan Textile Finishing Factory (Duc Hoa III - Slico Industrial Park, Duc Hoa District); Long An Investment One Member Co. Ltd. and Long An Logistics Joint Stock Company (2 companies under Transimex Group) invested in Long An Cold Storage (Vinh Loc 2 Industrial Park, Ben Luc District); etc and many other large-scale investment projects applying high technology, bringing great added value. This proves that the province has an attractive investment and business environment, meeting the needs of large investors.
The provincial Master Plan has identified the goal of "Long An province being a center for dynamic, effective and sustainable economic development of the Southern region; becoming a gateway on the urban - industrial economic corridor of the Mekong Delta; closely connecting with Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region; becoming an important cooperation and trade hub with Cambodia”.
Therefore, the province is making efforts to connect the region by solving infrastructure bottlenecks, especially road traffic infrastructure to attract investment. The province wishes to be a companion, a destination of prosperity for investors, together developing sustainably and long-term.
With its comparative advantages and available potential, Long An will make the most of its advantages, exploit and promote the province effectively to develop, become one of the "locomotives" of the region and make important contributions to the sustainable development of the Southern Key Economic Zone in particular and the whole country in general./.
